Yarnbury Angling Club
Yarnbury Angling Club was founded in 2008 in the town of Horsforth on the rural outskirts of Leeds. A small group of like-minded anglers/friends were deliberating one evening over a pint in the now club HQ The Old Ball Public House, just how long it had been since the old village, now bustling town had boasted an angling club. On chatting we realized Horsforth had a rich history of fishing clubs such as The Fleece, the Grey Horse of which my late father used to help run and the ex-serviceman’s club to name but a few. But all these clubs seemed to fade away during the late 80’s. Too longer lapse in our opinion something had to be done to get this great sport of ours back into the community, where did all the match men of yesteryear go? Promptly two trial matches were arranged on the small but beautiful river Soar in Nottingham, with a coach full of happy anglers both matches were huge successes and Yarnbury Angling Club was born.
The club is run by dedicated anglers hence their success, They have good local sponsors and hold regular matches for all age groups. they also have Lakes and rivers to fish including Toms Ponds, Grange Farm- Baldersby Park,23 pegs on the river Swale. Broom Farm- Baldersby, St James,40 pegs on the river Swale. Naburn Locks Caravan Park- Naburn 2 fields for pleasure fishing on the river Ouse.
